Council for development of the planning regions is formed separately for each region.

Members in Council for development of the East planning region are the Mayors of the Units of local self-government in the region.

The Council is managed by president, who is elected by the Mayors, for a period of 2 years.

The Council for development of the East planning region does the following functions:

• - Organises and coordinates the activities for following and appraising the implementation of the planning documents for regional development;
• - Adopts the Programme for development of the planning region, with previous approval from the National Council for balanced regional development;
• - Adopts the annual action plan for implementation of the Programme for development of the planning region;
• - Establishes a list of project proposals for development of the planning region, annually; планскиот регион;
  
• - Delivers proposals to the Bureau for regional development for identification of areas with specific development needs in frame on the planning region, in accordance with criteria with article 7 of this Law;
• - Assures coordination of the activities of the units of local self-government, associations of citizens, governmental agencies and institutions within the region which are working on regional development;
• - Initiates coordination between the units of local self-government and partners from private and civil sector concerning regional development issues;
• - Promotes cross-border cooperation with regions from other countries based on common interest;
  
• - Performs other works in the area of regional development established by the Law;
• - Adopts annual report for implementation of the Programme for development of the planning region.
