On June 4 and 05, 2018 in hotel Sirius, a working meeting was held for the members of the Strumica River Basin Management Council within the framework of the project "Restoration of the Strumica River Basin", which is being implemented by the Centre for Development of the South-East Planning Region, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and other relevant institutions, and is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.



The purpose of this meeting was to make an initial meeting of the members of the Strumica River Basin Management Council and to plan and prepare for its further work.

Representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, representatives of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, UNDP, representatives from the municipalities of the Basin, the Crisis Management Center, the Directorate for Protection and Rescue attended the working meeting. Part of the expert teams that worked on the implementation of certain activities within the project were also present.

On the first day, the Management Plan for the Strumica River Basin was presented, the results of the monitoring program in the Strumica River Basin and the Risk Management Plan for floods. On the second day, a review was made of the key activities and the results of the project for management of the Strumica River Basin. The expert teams engaged in the project presented the results achieved so far, regarding the implementation of the program for agro-environmental measures, the implemented activities to support the integrated pollution prevention and control system as well as the Feasibility Study for Wastewater Management in the Strumica River Basin.


Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) is part of the package for external relations. IPA and other elements of the package are a great opportunity for streamlining and simplifying the procedures of the European Commission and improving the coherence and coordination of the activities of the Commission.
