On 30th of October 2018 in the frame of the project “Restoration of Strumica River Basin” an event was organized where the Feasibility Analysis of Alternative Energy Source Options for Heating Greenhouse Production in the Strumica River Basin was presented, prepared by experts from Czech Republic.
The Feasibility Analysis is focused on identifying and assessing the opportunities for developing sustainable greenhouse heating solutions that will support farmers in this region to switch to environmentally and cost-efficient energy sources for heating greenhouses and will provide enough information to select the the most effective heating alternatives for the most common types of greenhouses in the region (in terms of the size and structure of crops), given the local climatic conditions and the available energy sources.
The use of such alternative heating sources will allow agricultural producers to reduce their heating costs in greenhouse production, expand and modernize their production, and at the same time eliminate harmful effects on the environment by using firewood.
The project "Restoration of Strumica River Basin" is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in partnership with the Centre for Development of the South-East Planning Region, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, as well as the Municipalities from the Basin and financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) is part of the package for external relations. IPA and other elements of the package are a great opportunity for streamlining and simplifying the procedures of the European Commission and improving the coherence and coordination of the activities of the Commission.
