On July 12, 2019, the official ceremony for awarding contracts was held in the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works in Sofia, Bulgaria, within the framework of the Second Call for project proposals through the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Programme between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia.

 

 

The ceremony was attended by the Manager of the Centre for development of the South-East planning region, Ms. Zhulieta Gjurkova, where the contract for the project "Joint actions for prevention and reduction of the consequences of disasters in the municipalities of Sandanski and Radovish" was signed, which will be implemented by the Centre for development of the South-East planning region as Project Partner together with the Municipality of Sandanski from the Republic of Bulgaria, as Lead Partner of the project.

The main goal of the project is to prevent and mitigate the consequences of natural disasters from a cross-border dimension, while the main activity in the South- East region is the arrangement of a part of the river bed of the Sushica River in the municipality of Radovis, in the length of 624 meters, cleaning of the river bed, setting of cascade thresholds, a quay wall, arranging the bottom, building stairs and ramps.

The main goal of the project is to prevent and mitigate the consequences of natural disasters from a cross-border dimension, while the main activity in the South-East region is the arrangement of a part of the river bed of the Sushica River in the Municipality of Radovis, in length of 624 meters, cleaning of the river bed, setting of cascade thresholds, a quay wall, arranging the bottom, building stairs and ramps.

Such activities will enable the regulation of the riverbed, as well as afforestation and greening around the river, which will provide reduction of the negative consequences from floods and adjusting to climate changes in the future. The quality of life of citizens in the cross-border region will also be improved by increasing the security of natural disasters.

The project will be implemented 24 months until July 2021.

     

Funds

Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) is part of the package for external relations. IPA and other elements of the package are a great opportunity for streamlining and simplifying the procedures of the European Commission and improving the coherence and coordination of the activities of the Commission.
